What happens at Firefly Magic® after the
holidays but before the Spring ‘Firefly’ season
begins?
The Firefly Magic® specialty lighting
engineers are busy on other unique and unusual
LED lighting effects, such at the new display at
Las Vegas’ Bellagio Hotel Conservatory.
The display which opens January 12, 2010 celebrates
the Chinese New Year by filing the Conservatory
with colorful flowers, giant Chinese coins, and
four large incense pots, each filled with 8 glowing
incense sticks.
And who designed and built the glowing embers
at the end of each 3 foot long sticks? That would
be the engineers at the sister division of Firefly
Magic®,
LEDSFX.
Visitors to the exhibit stare in wonder
at the incense sticks as the glow from each ember
slowly
increases
and
decreases in intensity, just like the real thing.
Stephen Taylor, head of Firefly
Magic, explained that at the tip of
each Incense Stick is a RED LED (Light Emitting
Diode) that is controlled by a solid state circuit
that slowly ramps the LED light from low to high
output, then back down again. This slow, random,
up and down variation exactly replicates the look
of a true incense stick as it burns unevenly down
the stick.
Taylor, and the Firefly Magic® imagineers
are frequently involved with unique and unusual
lighting designs, including those for stage, television,
and movie productions.
